The Lord Is Near

My husband, Pastor Rodel,  was merely doing his morning routine: rising out of bed, tiptoeing to the bathroom where he does his morning meditation. He would often mutter “Sweet, sleep some more”, because of my sleeping problem. Before doing his quite time, he often drinks two glasses of water. On that particular morning, I was hearing unusual clanging sounds. I was not thinking of anything wrong when I went to the bathroom. He said that he was feeling dizzy. He leaned forward on the wall and I was at his back, trying to figure out…

The Glory of God in the Fury of Glenda

In my life, I have not seen a typhoon as strong and as devastating as Glenda. The howling of the wind is still vivid to my ears – sometimes whistling, but all the time rampaging like an angry bull, tearing anything in its path. Roofs of houses were blown away like pieces of paper, rolled or crumpled and thrown in mid-air. Age-old trees were uprooted like they were weeds. Big branches were snapped and left dangling or smashed to the ground. Leaves and vegetation were swished away, ground to pieces and scattered to the ground creating a carpet of green after Glenda left.

Our glass window became a giant movie screen of…

Don’t Miss the Boat

Heb 4:1 Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us fear lest any of you should seem to have failed to reach it.

The offer of the Lord for salvation firmly stands. But it will not always be offered. There is a time that His call for rest and peace will cease, and the door of eternal destruction will be opened. Everyone who did not heed His call to come to Jesus will go directly to that door of eternal perdition.

And yet people would not heed His call, even if the message is proclaimed loud and clear. It is like a barker calling passengers for the last…

TBC Women joined in the 2nd Women’s Conference in Cubao

0

As the country was celebrating Independence Day (June 12),  the women in the reformed churches gathered for fellowship and learning during the 2nd Women’s Conference in Cubao.  It was sponsored by The Neighborhood Church with the topic: “Women of Virtue” as exemplified by Jochebed, Abigail, the widow who gave a mite, Esther and Dorcas.  Each of the five speakers from different churches was assigned a woman of virtue to discuss. Sister Haydee of TBC, was tasked to talk about the generosity and compassionate heart of Dorcas.

Eighteen TBC sisters joined the conference.   The church hired a van, and the trip provided another kind joyful fellowship for them. It was whole lot of fun for all the women. It was indeed…

Live for the Moment

When we are gripped with deadlines, saddled with financial burden, afflicted with paralyzing sickness and  wounded with relational problem, we tend to think … after these, things would be better. Or our mind flies back on those happy times and  conclude:  life was better than before.

It is but part of our human nature that when we are  encountering difficulties, we tend to think that “the former days are better than this” or that “tomorrow, things would be better. And so we tend to live for yesterday or tomorrow, not fully giving ourselves for today.

A student harassed with unrelenting academic requirements would muse on the days when the semester is over….

A Genuine Kind of Love

I friend sent me this email and I would like to share its touching message.

It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80’s, arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00 am. I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone  would to able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided, since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. While taking care of his wound, I asked him if he had…

Wondrous Autumn Colors

DSC_0017

My husband and I are here in Amherst, Massachusetts, for a short visit to our daughter Christine and her husband Neal. We arrived in this time when the fall colors are on their brightest.  This is my first time to see the awesome beauty of the autumn season.  Wherever I turn, the sight is glorious as the trees give out   a magnificent display of their leaves in varying  shades of orange, yellow, red and purple.  I ran short of words to describe God’s wondrous work.   At times, trees appear as if they were burning before my eyes. As the morning sun appears, it casts  a magical glow on every tree…

Ten Magnets To Men’s Eyes

The following message was delivered on Sunday morning, February 24, 2008 in the adult Sunday school class at Trinity Baptist Church in Montville, New Jersey.

Now, then, secondly, I want to identify the 10 things that most frequently tempt men to think unclean thoughts. This is not an exhaustive list, but I have run it by my fellow elders. I have run it by some others and I believe I am accurate in saying these are 10 triggers to lustful thoughts. Let me use this image. These are like magnets in a women’s dress, magnets that draw men’s eyes to parts of their bodies that if they are to maintain purity of mind they don’t want their…

Developing our God-given Talents

photo (2)

The Lord has blessed everyone  with  various talents and skills. Some seem to have extra-ordinary gifts while others  may appear  to be  simply “average”.

The difference with the “talented”  and the “master of none” is that the former spends time to  discover and cultivate his/her God-given talents, while the latter is contented in admiring the giftedness of others. The fact is, most people failed to discover and develop their gifts.

Developing our gifts requires a lot of self-discipline and determination. Commitment  is what we need so we can be what we want to be in life. John Mason, in his book, A Man Called Average, said that if we…
