The audience were excited. Many were taking pictures and cheering, as the graduates in Grace Ministerial Academy were called. But this mother was crying, shedding tears of joy, as her son was called on stage to receive his diploma. Her son, Ezequiel is now fully-equipped to become a pastor, a servant of the Lord. That was her dream and now it was fulfilled.
How noble is this mother whose ambition was for her children to know and love the Lord. She could have aspired for a better-paying job for her son, having lived in poverty all her life. But she sought a better portion. She was poor on earth, but in death…

Our world is in on a spiral decline. We can see people embracing immorality from every side. The gay movement takes pride in their newly found acceptance. Abortion is taken to a higher level with the tolerance, and even support for Planned Parenthood. Divorce has become an easy way out of a problematic marriage (5 out of 10 marriages in the US will end in divorce). We are bombarded by deceptive philosophies, and false religiosity makes men complacent of the true state of their souls. Materialism is in the core of economy and the breaking down of families is the attendant effect of the search for more. All of these…

Most of the residents in our village are either retired professors from UPLB or retired employees from IRRI. Many of them live an affluent life, with manicured lawns, and 2- 3-car garage. Yet many are already sick, and for this year alone, four have died already.
I feel sad whenever I hear of eminent professors and scientists now succumbing to old age. Some have gone senile, not wanting to meet people anymore. They are highly-educated people. Yet in old age, they just seem to wait for the sun to set on their lives, ignorant of their real purpose in living. How I desire to reach out to them and share the…

God appointed the birth and death of every living creature. But between birth and death is the work of God in us, accomplishing His purpose in our lives. If we are with God, our lives will slowly blossom into full fruition for His glory. If not, we are like sheep led to the slaughterhouse.
Between life and death, we can actively seek for solid happiness. In the Lord we can find it, outside of God, we search in vain.
That productive gap between life and death is ours to fill. It is like a canvas which we can paint with the brightest colours of life and create a rich texture of…

We are commanded to love our neighbors. As Christians we strive to do that everyday. But I am speaking here of loving our next-door neighbor. Loving the person/s living near you will make your life happier. Be kind to yourself. Don’t even attempt to quarrel with your neighbor.
I have heard of people who are at odds with their neighbors. I bet every time they see them, their day grows sour. My husband told me about a man who always complains about his neighbor. He would always avoid her or else she will ruin his day. But I don’t want anything to dampen each happy day that the Lord is giving…

As gold is refined in the fire, so is a woman through motherhood. Motherhood requires martyrdom because it means giving of our lives, our ambitions and aspirations – all for the sake of that “bundle of joy on the crib”.
Babies die if we leave them by themselves for a day. That is why God gave them mothers to tenderly and lovingly care for them. They maybe helpless, yet are endowed with power to command our loving attention, and have great potential for greatness. With God’s guiding hand, and a mother’s devotion, they can be assets to society, pleasing…

My father died 30 years ago. It was a tragic, unexpected death. As I write this, my heart still bleeds with longing for my father who was taken from us when he was only 53 years old. He was then the principal of San Pablo Central School, the biggest in the city. Three drug addicts forcibly entered our house and demanded money. It pierces my heart just to recall the incident. But God has a good purpose for all things. I always take comfort on that.
My father was a “jack of all traits”. He had knowledge of carpentry and did most of our cabinets, beds, benches and other stuff. He made toys out of coconut shell,…

1. If I were a young mother again, I will enjoy each day of motherhood because now I know that time is short and babies grow so fast.
2. If I were a young mother again, I will be thankful to the Lord for making me an instrument of shaping the character of a human being. The way I take care of my children has great impact in their lives later on.
3. If I were a young mother again, I will not be too concern about the cleanliness of the house, more than the quality time I spend with my children. The house will remain a house, but making happy memories…
